Tips for Renewing Your Home

If your home’s look doesn’t excite you anymore, maybe it’s time for a renewal project! Thank the heavens, the pandemic has past us.  For many, updating the interior or exterior of our home has presented a positive opportunity after living through the frightening crisis.  You still may not want contractors traipsing in and out of your house all day long, but there are easy changes you can make that can restyle a living space and lift your spirits.  Here are some ideas to consider.

Keep it Simple With Accessory Updates

Changing the accessories in your home is one of the simplest ways to give it a different look and feel. Consider new throw pillows for your sofa. If your window treatments have been hanging for several years, why not get some new ones? Chances are, they’re outdated and could use refreshing!  Remove the old ones and toss them — dust and all, and replace them with new ones that coordinate with your new sofa pillows. Updated lamps and colorful floor rugs can round out your accessory update, creating a vibrant, welcoming, and happy space. Fabrian Interiors is happy to help with these simple, but impactful updates if you need ideas and assistance.

Get Rid of the Clutter and Dust Catchers

It’s easy to generate piles of clutter. It usually starts with stacking a few items in a corner.  Sound familiar? As the corner attracts more items, it starts to spill over into the entire room.  Decluttering a space makes it appear larger and cleaner, and of course the air is healthier when you get rid of dusty objects. If you’ve been collecting knick-knacks like souvenirs that crowd end tables or other surfaces, it may be time to cull your collection. Select the most meaningful or valuable, and donate or sell the rest. A professional organizer or maid service can help you.

Be sure to follow up your decluttering with a proper cleaning. If you’ve dusted, you could stand to disinfect as well. You may, however, want to use one or more natural disinfectants instead of store-bought chemicals. Fortunately, it’s easy to mix up some DIY disinfectants at home that are safe to use anywhere.

Paint Can Boost Your Property’s Value

Updated wall paint can renew a space and attract buyers looking for a move-in-ready home if you’re planning to sell.  Interior and exterior paint can boost your property’s value, and neutral paint colors work with any decor. Home design websites, home improvement shows, and paint stores can inspire you to choose new paint colors. Select your paint and do the job yourself, or hire a painter to do it for you. Don’t forget to take before and after photos and keep your receipts.

Add Storage

Adequate storage can reduce clutter and add value to your house. Consider turning a small bedroom into a closet or office.  Create shelves to store household items, or add racks, dressers, and mirrors to turn the room into a closet and dressing room. Check out my before and after portfolio to see how we converted a small bedroom with a mirrored closet into a beautiful dressing room with an office nook. Transform the space under a staircase into a storage area. It makes a perfect place for shelves or cubbies to hold toys and backpacks. Adding more storage is an investment that can pay off if you sell your home.

Don’t Delay Updating Your Interior

Updating your home doesn’t have to wait or be an expensive undertaking. Updating decor, and window treatments, decluttering, painting, and creating storage spaces are just a few steps you can take. If the DIY thing is not for you, we’re happy to help!
